The President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama last week undertook a two day official working visit to the Central Region.

As part of his programme of activities, the President met with the members of the Central Regional House of Chiefs in Cape Cost on Friday 28th February, 2014. In his address to the House, the President acknowledged the important role of chiefs in complementing the efforts of government in the development of the country.

Six Queenmothers To Join House of Chiefs

Queenmothers from six paramountcies in the Eastern Region on Monday attended a day’s seminar on the modalities for their selection into the Eastern Regional and the National houses of chiefs in Koforidua.

The queenmothers, who were taken through some aspects of chieftaincy and roles to be played in the house were Nana Adwoa Gyamfua (Kwahu), Manye Korlekuor Adjado III (Yilo Krobo), Nana Yaa Daani (New Juaben), Nana Adutwumwaa Dokua (Akyem Abuakwa), Nana Akua Asantewa III (Akyem Kotoku) and Nana Kwantima Minkyem II (Akyem Bosome).

Ghana Cote D'Ivoire To Share Ideas On Chieftaincy

Ghana and Cote D'Ivoire have taken their bilateral relations a step further by agreeing to explore areas in chieftaincy and traditional governance. This has come about because the two countries share a lot of things in common due to their socio-cultural, historical and political ties.

Even though the two countries belonged to the Anglophone and Francophone zones as a result of their colonial as, the people of the two countries are one, a statement, signed by Mr. Nelson Akatey, public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said yesterday.

Chieftaincy Ministry Worried Over Identification

The Ministry of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs has expressed worry over the wrong use of its name in some quarters of the media.

"We wish to bring to the attention of the general public and our media friends that the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture, as its used to be, has been redesignated as Ministry of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs in accordance with Executive Instrument (EI) 2013", the public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Mr. Nelson Akatey, said in a statement copied to Ghana News Agency.
